Does anyone know where I can get the chrome strip that goes across back edge of the hood on a 78?
I've been looking for a re-pop but haven't found one.Dealership did a search for me but came up blank

No its a plastic chromed piece that naps on the back edge of the hood

Any local auto parts store, I think. Pretty sure it comes in a roll and you unroll it and snap it on. It's also called door edge guard. Or on the back edge of doors so you don't chip the paint if you hit it on something.
That sound about right.

I looked for door edge guard, but couldn't find any wide enough.
It's about an inch wide goes across back edge of hood.
I think it was only on 77 & 78 Silverado models.Saw a NOS on EBAY
awhile back, but it went for crazy money.GM part # 473869
Just found the one I saw winnig bid 611.99

Holy crap. Well I'm note sure where else to look. Have you looked on Classic//Industries?

78Big-ten,
Wow, $611.99?
There is another one listed on eBay right now with a 'Buy it now' price of only $1,200...

Personally, I can't see spending the cost of a very pair of nice heads for one piece of trim molding... However, I'd keep the GM part number handy and periodically do internet searches as well as checking molding packages at swap meets.

It was metal and there actually are 2 pieces that go on the fender tops too..
-
Haha if it's more than 150 bucks it ain't gonna happen. Screw that lol.

Mine was plastic chromed.I know it was the original as I special ordered this

I'm with you LTZ,thats some crazy money for what it is.
-
