Title: Chrome strip
Post by: 78BIG-TEN on December 16, 2014, 12:22:10 pm
Does anyone know where I can get the chrome strip that goes across back edge of the hood on a 78?
I've been looking for a re-pop but haven't found one.Dealership did a search for me but came up blank

Any local auto parts store, I think. Pretty sure it comes in a roll and you unroll it and snap it on. It's also called door edge guard. Or on the back edge of doors so you don't chip the paint if you hit it on something.

That sound about right.

I looked for door edge guard, but couldn't find any wide enough.
It's about an inch wide goes across back edge of hood.
I think it was only on 77 & 78 Silverado models.Saw a NOS on EBAY
awhile back, but it went for crazy money.GM part # 473869
Just found the one I saw winnig bid 611.99

78Big-ten,

Wow, $611.99?

There is another one listed on eBay right now with a 'Buy it now' price of only $1,200...

http://www.ebay.com/itm/NOS-1973-1974-1975-1976-1977-1978-1980-Chevy-Truck-Hood-Moulding-Trim-GMC-GM-/261700835140?pt=Vintage_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3cee95d744&vxp=mtr (http://www.ebay.com/itm/NOS-1973-1974-1975-1976-1977-1978-1980-Chevy-Truck-Hood-Moulding-Trim-GMC-GM-/261700835140?pt=Vintage_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3cee95d744&vxp=mtr)

Personally, I can't see spending the cost of a very pair of nice heads for one piece of trim molding...   However, I'd keep the GM part number handy and periodically do internet searches as well as checking molding packages at swap meets.
