Title: my 79 k20 build
Post by: Chevydude1990 on December 19, 2014, 02:29:09 am
Hey fellas, new to the forum here. I've always had a passion for these trucks ever since I was a kid, I love them. Have a 79 k20 Silverado with a 350, 400 trans, 203 t case, 10 bolt front, 12 bolt rear. Scored one heck of a deal on this truck, traded my beloved k5 for 3500 bucks and this sweet truck. It started off with a flat bed, I put a regular bed on it, did some front end work, alternator, tune up, few other things and wheels. Would like suggestions on what rims would look the best (not happy with the ar 62s), what power plant would be the best, and any money saving tips since I'm on a tight budget, keep in mind this truck will be used year round and I'm looking to build a truck that that won't get horrible fuel mileage but will answer a call to show up a ford or place in a street stock truck pull if I enter one. Thanks again

the week point on your truck is the axles there are going to be ok for now but if you abuse them they wont last. the trans isnt a bad trans neither is the transfercase. we have a couple people on here who can tell you how and what parts to build your engine. but we must know whats a "tight budget" are you talking 1-2k saved up or $500?

About 2500 saved up, ok good, I was thinkn Dana 44 and 14 bolt, for the motor I was thinkn big block but heard they get like 6 mpg lol not worried too much about mpgs but just don't want that bad of mpgs lol. I'm sure with the right carb tuning etc I could get more mpgs, or maybe a tbi 454?

theres not much difference in strength between the dana 44 and 10 bolt. i would stick to the 350, performance parts are pretty plentiful and are going to be cheaper than the big blocks

Your looking at 10-12mpg tops on a BBC.
