im looking at getting a Melling #MTC1 Torque cam 204/214 dur @ 50 .420 .443 lift. the guy that helps me get the right parts is out of town . so i come to ask u guys thanks

It sounds like the same as an Edelbrock Performer cam. It is ALWAYS a good idea to change the springs out to match the cam. They're usually less than $100.00. Worth the money to be on the safe side. Plus, your o.e. springs have probably weakend over time. How is the bottem end of the engine? An Edelbrock Performer or equivalent intake with about a 600 cfm carb (vacuum secondary design) willl work very well with that cam. A decent dual exhaust system with 2 1/4 pipes as well.

That cam is nearly the same as your stock cam. Your OE springs will work fine with it.

the bottom end is great on this motor really the hole motor is good but its starting to smoke when u lug on it so im pulling in and rebuilding it. and i thought i would put a little bigger cam in it

Cam tech has come a long way since that grind was produced.
That grind is like 30 years old.
Spending a few more $$$ for a grind like the Comp XE252 will be worth it.

82stepside, how does that powertrain combo work for you? I'm thinking something similar with some 1.94 or 2.02 heads ($4-500 rebuilt from a motor shop on Ebay) and either a Comp 262 or 268 Xtreme cam. Rest of my motor is pretty much stock (see the other thread in this forum called "Tell me what you think of this motor" for a description of my current setup).  You have lots of power with that?
