Title: 1977 c-10 mint condition. need advice
Post by: CO2GURU on December 22, 2014, 01:23:43 pm
my grandfather ordered this truck new from the dealer. he passed away about 8 years ago and I just now went and picked the truck up.  It has been in his garage under a car cover for as long as I can remember. Its a 1977 c10 bonanza with the 350 and a long bed with only 23,900 miles on it.  Everything on this truck is perfect. Zero Rust on the body.  So far I have put a edelbrock carb on it and a set of long headers.  I am trying to decide if I should lower it a little and put some 18s or 20s on it.  Only thing I have looked at is the 3/5 kit from DJM. Its a drop spindle and flip kit. what are yalls thoughts on this lowering kit?

If I go with the 3/5 kit what size tire/wheel combo do yall recommend? what width wheel and what backspacing?

Is there anything i need to look out for and any tips i should know. i have been browsing the site a little bit so i have read a few write ups on it.

also any other recommendations on some thing i should or shouldnt do to the truck. just looking for a more sporty classy look.

Thanks alot,
John

Welcome to the forum.  If I had a truck that was as nice as this one I wouldn't do a thing to it except take off that bush bar on the front bumper. Outside of that you have a sweet truck.

Welcome!

I know this doesn't answer your question, but I pretty much agree with SkidRo...

A 40-year old pickup in mint condition with such low miles is quite a find. As it is, you'll be turning a whole lot of heads.

I agree, leave it like it is.

I would go with a 2.5" spindle and 4" dropped leave and keep the factory parts, that way if you ever wanted to return it to stock you could.
That nice example of a preserved truck, got any interior pics?

I would ditch those add-ons and put some nice old school wheels and tires on it like hurricanes. I wouldn't lower it either, it's a beauty. Make grandpa proud

That's a nice truck. Only thing I would ditch would be the coat rack on the front. The bed side bars are ok I guess.

Man,that is a sweet truck, unmolested.I would do like some others said,
dump the brush guard. As far as a drop,I would use a simple kit and
retain the original parts just in case you want to put it back in it's
original condition. As for the big wheels,I just don't get it ,I mean
5-6 inch drop then put on 20's.I guess I've just gotten to old
and way behind the times.Bottom line is whatever you think
looks cool is what you should wind up with.

Ditch the brush guard
Detail it
Gather up all the paperwork you can find If there is any left (any titles.  Sales slips etc )

Start taking it to cruise ins Just the way it is

welcome from maryland. its tough when you have to think about modding a cherry truck. kind of like my crew cab. i want to fix all the rust but the more and more i think about it i want to keep it the air force blue. because thats what she is i like keeping things looking stock and maybe some more power behind it

My truck isn't as nice as yours but I wrestle with the same issue.  Dad bought it new, 63k miles, redone 20 years ago but still pretty sweet.  Problem is, I can't live with a 305 2 barrel.  I'm going  to do bolt on stuff, no hacking at the body or frame.  I hope I can find a good place to store the 305 after I toss in my 400.

Another vote for leaving it alone...buy one that's not so close to perfect to modify, IMHO.

Thanks for the replys guys.  Yes I have all paperwork that came with the truck. The owners manuals are still wrapped in plastic. Right now I am working on polishing the crome bumpers and all the trim peices. Next I am going to take a clay bar to a few spots that have some road grim on the lower panels then do a full detail on the paint. Im looking for a good buffer kit. not a dual action but a true multi speed buffer. Anyone know where I can pick on up for a decent price?

I will try to take some interior pictures this week.

Keep it as stock as you can while getting the look you want.  16" old school rims.
