Title: Chrome Hood caps

I have been looking all over and had no luck.  I am trying to find a Chrome Hood Cap for my 78 Chevy Pickup.  Any suggestions on where I might be able to find one??

What exactly are you talking about? under the hood? Or on the front of the hood to prevent damage from rocks and bugs?

I'm talkking about a chrome cap that fits over the center section of the front of the hood, just above the grille.  It was a decorative as well as protective piece.  I have found them for newer trucks but have had no luck finding one for my 78.

No, I am not referring to a bug shield.  I am talking about a chrome, or stainless, piece that is contoured to fit the front, center section of the hood of a 73-80 Chevy pickup.  I used to see them at GI Joes stores all the time.  They were on the shelf right next to the bug shields.  But that was when I was building my 56 Cameo, and I didn't need one.  Now that I need one, I can not find one or find anyone who even knows what I am talking about.  Thanks for asking.

I have never seen one of those before. Do they make them for a 81-87 model truck?

That is an '82 C20, so yes they make them for the 81-87's.  

Keep in mind all the ones I have seen (including this one) have dirt and crud trapped behind the shield and has surface rust starting.  Many of them are rusted out on the bottom and behind the shield.  Anything that can trap dirt/moisture will promote rust, and these caps will do exactly that.
