Post by: Ds2014 on December 28, 2014, 11:42:07 am
I have an 81 step side short wheelbase under restoration, what do I use to seal the heater box back to the firewall?

                                        Thanks Don

I have used butyl tape like what they used to use to install windshields. I have also used the two sided urethane foam tape that is used for metal roofing. You lay it on top of the rib that is to be overlapped by the next sheet / panel of metal.

I got a roll of 3/8" round butyl rubber and used that.

I got it from a local windshield repair supply house.  They actually just gave me the roll!

Looks like RV Wholesalers has some rolls.  Doesn't really matter if it is round or flat.  The 3/8" round that I had was a little thick.  I needed to squish it down a lot.  A flat strip of 3/16" x 3/4" or 1" would probably work well.

Your local lumber yard has the urethane roofing tape.
