I'm interested in hearing how you all typically respond to the question that usually follows, "Hey, you've got a truck!"

no I will not tow your boat/rv/car/child to the junk yard (unless your paying and doing the lifting)
no I will not do a burn out
no I will not drive through that mud hole
yes I do love my truck
no it's not a rust bucket, is has less rust than you.

no you can't drive/borrow it.

one person asked me why do i like driving my trucks and why not get a new one. i just point to the parking lot and ask how many truck out there look like yours? now how many look like mine?

Because my truck was built back when tough, long lasting, dependable and quality were all used in the same sentence to describe one truck, made by a company that had employees who were PROUD to built America's truck, not an endless line of robots and computers. Because there are still more of these on the road than any other truck. Because my truck is a Chevrolet."
Sorry, my patriotism may have kicked in there just a little bit.

More than once I have had someone say "I don't want to inconvenience you, but could I borrow your truck?" I know they are trying to be polite and say they aren't asking for my physical help or my time, just for the use of my truck. What they don't understand is that it IS an inconvenience to be without my truck. It's my daily driver, my transportation, my independence, and by the way, an old friend. Do you want to borrow my lawn mower? No problem. Bring it back when you're done. Want my wheelbarrow? I won't miss is for weeks. But my truck? I don't think so. If I have the time to help you I will, and yes I will bring my truck. But if I can't do it, I'll be honest and say so . . . and you're not getting my truck.

Well, I always get "when are you going to get that truck out of your yard?" To which I reply, "when I give up hope."
Or the converse, "hey sell me that truck in your yard." To which I respond, "heck no."
Or "why don't you paint that thing?" To which I say, "when it stops being a work truck."

I get a kick outa peoples faces when they say its getting a little rusty, or YOU JUST scratched it. I answer I didn't build it to look at it!

True story, I let someone borrow my first truck- 1980 C10 400/TH400 black beauty. Promised me he'd be careful, not a scratch. Came back with a scratch alright, from the front bumper to the back bumper on the drivers side he bounced off the guard rails 2 or 3 times and basically destroyed it. Anyone who asks to borrow my truck gets a GFY. Call U-Haul or Home depot and rent one. I am still upset about it 20 years later

My response to "Hey you got a truck" is:
"That's right, a real truck, and yes its yellow and its mine, you can't borrow it to move or haul dirt in, nor can you borrow it for any other reason."
No one, absolutely no one will be borrow Yeller 2.0 while I own it. :)
