I recently replaced the alternator on my 1984 C30. I decided to go with a higher amp alternator than the original. The problem I'm having is that the belt now squeals when I first start the truck. The belt squeals while the alternator is at maximum capacity. Once the batteries are charged back up and the alternator backs down, the squealing stops. I have tried two new belts and have retightened the belt several times. (My truck has the v-belts.)
Any ideas for stopping the squealing or should I just switch out the alternator for one with lower amps?

Have you tried the squeal stop belt spray? I had some success with it on my failing AC compressor. It ended up causing the clutch to slip instead of the belt.
This was on a serpentine setup with a tensioner. No way to tighten that belt.

Wrong belt. Not tight enough
