Title: Starter options

I'm doing some work over the winter to make my truck a more reliable summer cruiser. I need a new starter. It's been giving me some troubles lately and I'm tired of that. I'd like to upgrade. I seen a post on here about using gear reduction starters instead of the heavy factory ones. One reply I seen used a mid 90's chevy starter. Just wondering if that's a direct bolt on. I know there is 2 ring gear tooth counts. Don't know if that makes a difference or not when using that starter. Any other options or suggestions would be great. Thanks

nothing wrong with oem style. some put a heat shield on it

Oh I know there isn't anything wrong with them. When I replace stuff I try and upgrade if I can. Installed a heat wrap on it already trying to save it. The starter is pretty old and I have headers too. So it's time for a new one.

You can use a Lester #6449, but you'll need a pair of Dorman bolts p/n# 678-107.

You can also use a Hitachi mini-starter, and many different places offer them, Summit, for instance.
