Can someone give me some insight to what is happening here please. I know this is not a standard alternator bracket. Is this a problem with the water pump on the truck or the bracket itself?

The upper bracket is wrong but should work if the belt lines up and the bracket will tighten the belt. If you need the right bracket I have a few extra sitting on a shelf.

Yeah everything lines up but I need to use nearly 1" of washers to tighten the alternator down. For now I'll make it work but I will be fore sure getting proper bracket.

Ugh.
Yeah, you need the factory bracket in the worst way.

I had the same type bracket on mine and had trouble with the belt squealing. No matter how much I shimmed it I couldn't get it just right. Then when I was ordering an electric fan from summit I saw they had a chrome alternator bracket that bolts to the bottom of the water pump and has an adjustment on top with a heim joint on each end and a threaded sleeve to loosen or tighten the tension. Best 25$ I've spent in a while. No more squeal or belt wandering and very simple to adjust.

So I tried an aftermarket adapter.. not a hope in heck it was going to work.. Looks like this will be the usable one for the foreseeable future until I get an oem one.
