Post by: scrant on June 11, 2002, 06:01:00 pm
just wondering if any of you have bought fenders from   or year one restoration...how did they fit...
i know that they are aftermarket parts, i've just never bought aftermarket fenders before...

im in louisiana and straight fenders here are a rarity!

my truck is an 81 lwb chevy with a stock 350.

has a few dings and rust..just wanna metal truck not a bondo filled truck...

i have put fenders on before on other trucks but they were allways  an OE GM fender from a junkyard! and still require a little pushin and shovin, he he

i would just rather pay the little extra for a non rusted one that for one i will have to take down to the metal from a junkyard!

what aftermarket fender have you used?

i also need a bed in a lil better shape than mine...the ultimate goal is to paint the truck black, or dark at least if not black!

thanks for the reply,

Title: Certifit
Post by: 7680GMC on June 11, 2002, 11:31:00 pm
I am in the process of fixing up my truck.  I was going to get the parts from  , but someone told me about Certifit.  They are cheaper and for the price, they fit okay.  On one of the fenders, one of the tabs is a bit too long, so I had to trim it down a little.  Other than that, the fit was good.  Not perfect, but what can you expect from a $30 fender?

Last I heard the OEM 81-87 fenders had gone up to about $500 from the dealer! So I would definately go with an aftermarket one. I put a set on my 84 and the fit nearly perfect. one had a slightly larger gap than the other side at the base but if you take the time, you can make em fit just right.

i would definitely give a look at JC Whitney.  A long as they have been in business they have had these parts for years and its hard to beat their prices.  Everything I have ordered has been excellent.  (rocker panels, headlight bezels, window lacing, etc, etc)

i bought stuff from JC before when i was restoring a VW and most of the parts i recieved were better than i expected...
alot of the bug parts were made by EMPI but were not advertised that way...

so maybe JC will send me GM fenders....hahahha

thanks,
anthony

Title: '80s fenders
Post by: Wondertruck on June 30, 2002, 04:48:00 pm
I posted on the classifieds about a truck I was parting out. It is a '74 with factory A/C.
It had an '80s front end clip change. All the information posted is correct. The inner fenders
don't look as good as the '74s. You have to change core support, hood hinges, and other things. The truck I am parting has the later core support, inner fenders, right front fender
with battery box. e-mail if you need any of it. ttaylor855@aol.com
