 (Accurate identification using the GM RPO code assumes that the rear end has not been previously modified)

The only true way is to pull the cover and see what ratio is stamped on the ring gear and do the math.

When was the last time the rear differential fluid was changed?  Perfect time to pull the cover, drain the oil and count teeth and/or read the ratio stamped on the edge of the ring gear.

As Erik stated the only way to know for 100% sure is to pull the cover.

Yea it was changes couple months need to get new gasket other than cork it seems useless I have the 3 speed with granny low almost positive rear end has never been upgraded gear teeth look amazing BTW its 1980 1500 Cheyenne  any one know which options Chevy offered in 1980

Factory for an I6 with standard suspension.  2.73, 3.08 or 3.42 depending on the trans.
