Title: Radio hole too big
Post by: Nj1986k10 on February 18, 2015, 07:25:32 pm
The previous owner modified the bezel and it is slightly too big for my bew headunit. Can i use diamond plate to cover the hole than cut an opening?

I don't see why not. Basically all your doing is making a new mounting location with the proper size cut out. If it's gonna go on top of the bezel you can use something nice like diamond plate or one of the aluminum inserts that go in the door panels. If it's gonna go behind the bezel on the steel dash frame, use a clean piece of mild steel or anything that's not a piece of crap.

like said yes, but imo i wouldnt. just for the simple reason if you put a shinny piece of aluminum its like a fishing lure to rednecks and it will catch every ones eye. to me it would be a eye sore i would put a piece of metal spray painted black or even the diamond plate painted black so it doesnt stick out so bad

If you go to the junk yard, try to find a 76 I think or maybe 77-80 chevy or gmc truck with door panels, the high trim door panels have a piece brushed aluminum in them. They are easy to get out and are big enough you should be able to make 2 plates with 1 panel. Then you get a factory piece, made from factory part that looks like it might belong around the radio.

Just an idea, and it's flat, not bumpy like diamond plate so it should sit flat.
