Title: headers for vortec
Post by: dieselman123 on February 22, 2015, 07:05:18 pm
Hey guys I just got done installing my vortex headed 355 in to my 83 c10 Silverado base. The original motor for the truck was a 305 and the dipstick tube was on passenger side. The new motor has the dipstick on the driver side and my question is what header will work in my truck with the heads being vortec heads. I tried bolting the stock manifolds up to do the initial break in but can't install the dipstick tube or the passenger side manifold. I plan on buying a set from summit. The part number is sum-g9006 but not sure if they will work. Any advice would be greatly appreciated that's in advance

I installed a set of the coated version on my 78 and the fit is fine.If I had to do it over,I would spring for a better quality header like Headman,Hooker, etc

So those headers will fit vortec heads and will it be OK if I do the initial break in of the motor with those headers installed

Sure thing, but if using the coated headers don't be to disappointed if the coating turns during breakin.Mine did

Yea I figured it would but I can just go over it with some barbecue grill paint. I heard it's really tough
