Title: 79 k10 translation problem

Hello
  A friend has a 79 k-10 ,  350 ci , automatic trans . I do not know if it is a turbo 350, or 400. He is having problems , it doesn't go into reverse . Is it common for reverse to go , or could it be a linkage type problem ?

reverse can go by itself and it not effect forward gears. could be a linkage problem
search ebay for "Chevy GM column shifter linkage bushing sleeve"
BUT i doubt its your problem and i dont want you to buy something if your not sure if it is your problem. most times the shifter will have to be in neutral for the transmission to be in drive
