hey guys im looking for suggestions on what I should do with my 83 c10 swb stepside

im running a built 350 and a sm465 now but am considering a swap to a 5 speed or an auto tranny.
the engine makes good power and I am putting in a positrac in the rear.
I like to have fun with the truck so I don't want to put in anything weak if I do a swap.

My 465 is in need of some help, the syncros are beat, clutch is old, the manual linkage is worn and im not sure if I should rebuild or swap

 What do you guys suggest?
thanks for any input or suggestions

Since you have the high hump cab there is no problem going with any transmission.  The NV4500 is a good choice or a TKO http://www.5speedtransmissions.com/68-87_chev_truck_5sp.html

A great upgrade to a juice clutch set up would be good at this time as well

NV 3500 5 speed from 97-07 silverado is a good swap

4L60/700R4 would be a nice upgrade. Sell the MT linkage, pedals and accessories to help fund the conversion.

what will I need to upgrade to a hydraulic clutch if I decide to do a 5 speed swap.
a buddy of mine has a parts 94 chevy shorty with a 4.3 and a 5 speed that im looking to pull the tranny out of.  can I use anything else from this truck to help with a swap?
what year trucks should I be looking to scavenge parts from?

The 97-07 trans are better but that should wor

The external slave will hit the front driveshaft if it's 4wd

You need a Hudrualic clutch and brake pedal setup from a 85-87 pickup And have a hose made at a local shop

so I have decided I want to do an auto swap.  im thinking about a 4l60 or a 700r.
What do you guys think is the better choice?

Also, correct me if im wrong but I will need the following parts:
 tranny, flex plate, convertor,
cooler lines and cooler (because my rad does not have trans cooler),
a driveshaft and maybe a new yoke
 kickdown cables and brackets.
and some sort of floor shifter (I don't want to changer columns)
 and automatic pedal setup

What do I do about the neutral safety switch off the clutch pedal?

youll probably need a different speedometer cable

you shouldnt need an automatic pedal setup unless you want that wide brake pedal.

youll need the dipstick tube. one with the tab that uses the transmission-to-engine mounting bolt to hold it in place is the best

Also, depending on the year of the transmission, a 4L60 and a 700R are one in the same transmission.

and watch out for lockup vs non lockup transmissions
