Title: Fixin frame rust

Very soon i plan on sanding down my frame and painting it. There are some rust spots but only 1 'bad' one. I havent really looked at it but its some kind of support near the cab. Its not really bad but i was wondering should i just take it out and weld it a replacement? What is that stuff you can apply to rust and it makes it hard as steel again?

And you should not have to cut out a piece of frame rail.  I can't imagine that you have more than just surface rust on steel as thick as the frame rails.

ITs not actually the frame its like a support bracket on the frame. Seems like the frame parts are okay but all the members connecting the frame are the worst.  But thanks!!

Sounds like the crossmembers to me. You shouldn't weld crossmembers to the frame. The entire frame structure needs to move and flex a little bit. Bolting is the best, the factory uses rivits because its fast and less expensive. You can buy cross members from the junk yard and I think you can still get them from GM.
