i have my heads off and im going to do the valve seals so i bought the little O ring seals and i bought the rubber umbrella seals.
i now realize that my valves do not have the umbrellas but since i already have them, can i put them on? or is there a reason they arent on my valves?
i have read around online and nobody seems to have my situation. and my SBC rebuild books dont include a work about the rubber umbrella seals
thanks guys!

The only real issue you would likely run into is keeper to seal clearance. The worst part about checking this clearance is that just because one passes doesn't mean all 16 will pass as well so you will be served well to check them one by one.

Using the umbrellas could cause for oil starvation between valve to guide. While you have them off did you check your clearance? Probably a good idea to catch any future problems.

i did check the clearance. they were all very tight with no slop other than one exhaust valve that had the tiniest little bit of play.
so after i posted here and forgot about doing so, i went ahead and started on the seals the next day. turns out the umbrellas were on only the intake valves on my heads. so i went ahead and replaced both kinds on the intakes and just the o rings on the exhausts.
and its no wonder the valves were leaking. only 4 of the orings were actually undamaged. all the others were broken, half gone, or on 3 of them they were gone completely
