Hey guys my first time using the site so I'm not sure where to pay stuff yet so sorry if I chose wrong spot, anyway I have a 85 k10 and a 96 z71 in putting the 5.7 vortec and 4l60e in my 85 I was wondering if it is possible to put my 96 dash in my 85 I can't seem to find info on this when I google, also any tips on this swap would be helpful as it is my first. I'm use to Honda cars, so thanks for any help.
-
anything is possible about the cluster but it wont be easy and i dont think many have done it due to the fact you would have to redo the whole dash and at that point why stick to a stock cluster if youre going to do a custom dash.
have you thought how youre going to do the tranfercase?
what trans and t case do you have now?
is this 96 a true "vortex" and does it have the cpi?
-
Don't know much on transfer case trans is a 4l60e from what I seen people just relocate the crossmember. And how do I tell if it is true vortec? I know it says it on I take cover and its a 5.7 looks like a throttle body injection on it
-
well you cant use the 96 transfercase since its on the drivers side. so you have to use a passengers side drop transfercase. your old transmission might be a 700r4 and np208 so you might be able to use the 208 behind the 4l60e then you have to figure out the speed sensor. you old one will be a cable one while the new one will be a electric one.
i have never done this swap before just giving you notes on what you have to think about. others will chime in and really help. take a picture of your engine and post it we will be able to identify it
-
Yea it is a 700r4 and if I can keep the original transfer case then That will help me with the speedo and having to change the dash, ok I will do that once I get off work in a couple hours

sorry the cpi was only for 4.3s
the true vortex came out in 96 some say the tbi is vortex and it does have some vortex quality but its not the real one (96)
-
So would that mean that my 96 is vortec or do I need to look and make sure it's not a late 95 that they just called a 96?
-
the pcm is going to need a electric speed signal to shift the transmission. they make things to change the cable signal to electric but they are a couple hundred, some make an adapter so you can have your cable do both but you need the pcm programmed since the pulses will be different

So i read that forum and ima need a afalter plate to hook transfer case to the 4l60e. I'm considering just making the vortec carb got any opinions on that? I k ow I'll need a vortec specific intake and a 6 psi fuel pump a carb of course and a flex plate from advance adapters to mate 700r4 to vortec
-
the transfercase adapter playe is the same between the 700r4 and 4l60e as long as its the same transfercase or transfercase pattern. never heard of anyone making the vortex carbed. if your vortex came with a 4l60e it should be the same flex plate but idk, the 700r4 is pretty much the same trans as the 4l60 and 4l60e
-
I've done a vortec 350 with a carb. Pretty easy. I used a
gm crate L31-r motor (http://www.jegs.com/i/Chevrolet-Performance/809/12530283/10002/-1)
Edelbrock 2116 intake: (http://www.jegs.com/i/Edelbrock/350/2116/10002/-1)
Mallory Fuel Pressure Regulators 4309: (http://www.jegs.com/i/Mallory/650/4309/10002/-1)
Quadrajet carb

If it has TBI then it isn't a Vortec, Also you don't need a special flexplate to mount a 700r4 to a Vortec 350.
-
Yes the bolt pattern on the 4l60e and the 700r are the same the only time it will be different will be when it's a 4l60e for an ls and you can tell that from the bell housing two piece (ls) and one piece (pre-ls.)

I'm trying to post a pic of motor but it won't let me says file to big and I do t know how to down size it on iPhone
-
Idk about apple but you can use photobucket app and then use the IMG code from there

What dizzy did you use? Wondering if my 305 one will work
