Hey y'all I have a 79 c10 short bed with a 4bt Cummins that I've had for around five years now and it is a work in progress. Once I get to a computer I'll post some pictures.

My buddy finished his 97 6bt 1 ton swap last year and loves it. With 20 degrees of timing, turned up ppump and an upgraded h1c he averages 20 mpg.

Welcome from NW Indiana

The truck and how much can my truck safely tow, never mind the drive train, with a custom hitch? The hitch setup is going to be very similar to what my buddy did with his pulling truck.

The engine.

generally speaking you are limited to the drive train, brakes, tires, springs and frame size for towing. BUT in a custom hitch that might be the week spot. unless the welder knows what hes doing it might be less then you think till it breaks
-
a trailer hitch should be at the minimum for our trucks 5,000 lbs gross trailer weight but they can be up to 15,000 lbs GTW. its all on how theyre built. the c10 gvwr is going to be between 4900 and 6200. but even if you had a 15000 lb trailer hitch made your rear axle might not take 6000 lbs

OK thanks.
