when i worked at autozone 9-10 years ago some guy brought in a red top optima. said it was bad i offered to charge it he said no and he would just use it as a core charge. we had a couple spare batteries in the back i swapped it out for and put it on the trickle charger all night. tested it and it tested good, put it in my 94 c1500 and shes still in her today. would i buy a red top for my next battery? idk depends on how much change i have in the bank

Getting real hard to find a battery that's not make in Mexico

The quality of all brands has gone downhill
And now there's only two or three manufacturers that make all the brands
Most are made on the same assembly line and just get a different name decal slapped on top

Honestly the Optima batteries of today are nowhere near the quality of a few years ago and lots of people have issues with newer ones. Also batteries are that one area that I don't like to cheap out on because its a crucial part of keeping the truck happy.

With that said I like the Interstate Mega-Tron Plus or MegaTron II as they are a rock solid battery.

You might check at a library and see if consumers reports magazine has tested car batteries lately

Almost all are made in Mexico now but the battery company does make an extra $3 profit on each one verses making them in the states

i have had good luck with AC delco AND irregardless of the debate with Optima, i also run D34 yellow tops and have had really good results with them too.

AC Delco batteries are pretty good. I have an 800 CCA Delco in my truck, just told them I wanted the big ones that go in the diesels.
