Title: mystery wire
Post by: 79scott on April 15, 2015, 09:11:50 pm
Hey Guys,
I was going through the engine bay on my '79 C10 and came across a green wire that was just dangling. The wire exits the wire loom near the thermostat housing and was just laying down the side of the engine. Any idea where it goes? I have posted a few pics below. Does it  go to the carburetor (electric choke maybe)? The second pic is of the electric choke (I think)

Thanks

Green wire would be the water temp. sending unit.

There are two green wires, Forgot to mention that. Temp Sensor wire is already accounted for. Do the 2bbl Varijets have an electric choke?

The picture you show is an electric choke. Two wires, one going to the + terminal needs to be a fused 12 volts with ignition ON only.  In other words, the 12 volts should only be there with the ignition on. This is to protect the choke from burning up.  The - terminal is the ground.
That second green wire-- could it be a headlight wire?

Thanks for the reply. Currently there are no wires running to the choke itself. I will put a test light on the "mystery" wire and cycle the ignition and see what happens.

If its green, my guess is the idle stop solenoid which ties into your low pressure switch connector from the firewall area- electric choke lead is usually a light blue. Does it have a single black connector on it! The choke wire has a grey connector that is specific to the style of choke thermostat.

Well the "mystery" green wire is just stripped bare on the end that is hanging, and the choke used to have a connector on it. I can see where it was broken off the face of the choke.

Where would I look for the idle stop solenoid? Backside of the carb where all the linkage is located? Carb is a 2bbl Varijet II by the way.

I'll take a look tomorrow for the light blue wire but I think everything has been accounted for.

Would some more pics help out?
