Title: Crate motor
Post by: qmr55 on April 22, 2015, 09:34:34 pm
What crate motor will bolt into an 85 c10? previously had a 305 in it.

Will something like this bolt right up to the mounts?

Recommendations?

Thanks guys appreciate it!

Any traditional small block will bolt in with no modifications, any big block will bolt in if you move the mounts forward. So yes the engine in the link will bolt in, however, I would look for one with a smaller cam for a truck. Speak with Rich on cams as he is very knowledgable and helpful.

plus you dont know how well the rest of the drivetrain would hold up to a motor like that

You want torque not horsepower for a truck

... as noted  ::)  you always have to consider the whole system when upgrading.  Just as an example, the link's fine print states "Does not include flywheel/flexplate."  You'll likely need to change your torque converter, open your transmission for modifications to accommodate the new power, new pumpkin gears (consider Richmonds), and axles...

...recent advice I got from a professional hot rodder....."the project is never finished until you sell it.
