Hey Guys and Gals,
:o So everyone has brain farts and here is mine, I`ve been doing some re-wiring on my truck and the question I have is on the Positive Cable from the battery there are 2 wires the large one that connects to the starter and a smaller black w/red cable. Where does the Black W/Red cable go?
1991 Chev C1500 5.7L 350 TBI, Automatic,
Thanks in Advance

back of the alt?
-
Nope, Alt is hooked up, This one is runs down over the crossmember and by the starter but I already have the main positive hooked up, This wire is connected to the the main positive wire and begins life at the battery. I`ll see if I can figure out the whole loading pictures thing.

Starter has 4 main wires coming off of it.
1 large to battery
1 large to junction block
1 red to alternator
1 purple to ignition
-
Yep got those all hooked up. The wire in question is mated at the positive terminal to the main positive cable ( the one that runs to the starter ) It looks factory made. Might not go anywhere I guess. The truck is no where near original lol.
-
is it made into the main battery wire at the terminal?
-
yes sir it is

On a 1991, the 8-gauge blk/red off the battery positive post connects to the B+ post on the back of the alternator along with a 16-gauge fusible link that protects a 12-gauge red wire running to the firewall bulkhead connector.
-
Should go to your alternator

this is the 88-98 body style?
-
Thanks guys, The truck runs good without it connected lol. I will hook it up and see if it does anything.
The truck itself is a 1987 R10, Reg Cab, 8Ft box, 2wd, 28 Spline Ford 9" Rear End, BUT the Motor, Transmission, Steering Column and ALL wiring is from a 1991 Suburban 2wd, 350 5.7L L05, 700R4.

Oh and the only thing i can't seem to get to work is my fuel gauge but I think its an issue with the cluster.
-
so whats the wiring from(battery)?
-
If its 2-3 feet longer than the battery cable then it could go up through the heat
tube mounted on the bell housing bolts above starter to junction block on the
firewall next to the accumulator
