Title: Passenger Side Vent by Kick Plate Question
Post by: Trailnut on May 15, 2015, 06:45:02 am
Question please -

My '73 has been in the Family since late '72 and i have never seen this vent down by the right side kick plate open/move.  The Truck does have A/C.  What does this vent do?    :-\

Tha main reason i want to know is because i got some kick plates with the speakers already installed (Custon AutoSound) and i will have to remove this vent to install the new kick plate/speakers.

Any help would be appreciated

The vent is vacuum operated, depending on which setting you place the HVAC control on, it sends vacuum to it and pulls it open.

It allows fresh air to flow onto the air handler. You will want to block it off if you choose not to use the vent setting on the controls and also plug the vaccum line or the other vaccum operated dampner won't work and could cause a stumbling and or backfiring due to vaccum leak. I would try to change the angle of the speaker by removing it and making a semi circle shappped wedge to angle the speaker in a different direction.

AC on, temp lever full cold the door should open if all is functioning and hooked up.  Engine running. Recirculating  air for AC.
