Title: Door Glass
Post by: LiveInspired on May 15, 2015, 08:40:07 pm
I found some doors I may be able to purchase at a good price. One is missing glass. They are manual doors. The doors I have currently are electric (not what I prefer). The question is, would the glass from my current electric door work in the manual doors or will I need new glass? I'm not sure exactly what year the manual doors are (the guy selling them was going to put them on an 86) My electric doors are from a 79. If I have to replace it, any idea how much glass costs?

The glass will swap over directly. I put a power window and lock setup from an 85 silverado in my old 79.

The doors are all the same, only difference is the 73-80(?) Has thicker glass than the 80-87. Change was to save weight during the fuel crisis.
They may swap over no problem, or you may have an issue with the glass not working with the existing regulators.

existing regulators will be fine, it is just the window felt gaskets that will be loose or tight depending on which way you go

The best thing to do if you want manual windows instead of power is to remove the power switches, wiring and regulators from your current doors and then swap in the manual regulators and handles from the donor door. If the doors area good price, there's no reason to swap over anything else or even the entire door itself. Just remove the window parts and change it over. Then you can do whatever you want with the extra parts.

I put 85 doors on my 75 a exact fit. I wanted power windows and locks and found this route was a easy fix
