I have a 86 gmc with stock 350 .I am interested in doing a engine swap to fuel injection or throttle body. Can anyone tell me which way is the simplest? Im told to go with the vortex since the computer just mounts under the hood on sidewall

Welcome from California. Nice truck. Your question is somewhat a "loaded" question. There are lots of options to choose from, entire engine swaps, small modifications, fuel injection swaps and on and on. Keep in mind some things require changing a few other things and some things require changing alot of things and some things lead to other changes entirely all their own (such as transmission swaps, electrical rewiring and the list goes on). So, the best thing to do is look at what you have and decide for yourself what it is exactly you want. Better mpgs, more power, more reliability. Once you have decided what you want exactly, then we can help you figure out what the best course of action will be. The last thing you want is 100 opinions that are all different and then your so confused you can't see straight, after all its YOUR truck, do what YOU want.

Your welcome. Report back when you have made a decision so we can give you pointers and ideas.

One problem i see is one question was throttle body or fuel injection? Throttle body IS fuel injection. A form of fuel injection.
Are there any good texts or links that we could read to better understand fuel injection or the types of injection? Suggest reading up on this first.
Also to sgt, why do you feel you need fuel injection?
-
@Stewart ..its not a point that I "Need" fuel injection ..Its what I "Want"

i think Edlebrock has a system that allows you to use the stock tank and stock mechanical pump:
http://www.edelbrock.com/automotive/mc/efi/fuel-sump-kits.shtml
Makes adding EFI real easy because you don't have to mess with the tank or the lines leading up front to the engine. Or figuring out where to put an electric pump, which pump/filters etc.
If you have time and patience, perahaps mega squirt might be a good route because after you're done, you'll really understand how fuel injection works.
Confused yet? :)

Lol thanks but from my current research I would be better off buying the whole engine & wiring harness rather than go that route

There are other much cheaper options. Have you decided for sure what you want?
-
I had the 5.7 vortec in mind with a hotcam swap
-
Which year are you thinking off? 90s Era 5.7? If so you can bolt on fuel injection without having to change the engine. A 90s Era vortec 5.7 is just a small block chevy with a roller cam and fuel injection instead of a carb. All the fuel injection stuff can be swapped over pretty easy.

Thank you much on that info! Thats what I been looking for. Any more info you can provide on this would be grearly appreciated ..
