Title: Caburator replacement- National Carburetor
Post by: ScottD on May 18, 2015, 09:08:15 am
I was having a lot of drivability issues with my 1985 C10 with a 350.   No power, sluggish, hesitation, secondary’s wouldn’t kick it, it was bad.  I started my search for new carburetor’s and found there was a ton of information online.  A strong majority suggested sticking with the Quadrajet for daily drivers that are running stock motors.  I took their advice and found http://nationalcarburetors.com/ sold rebuilt units for $175 with a lifetime warranty (not sure what that entails).  I decided that $175 was a pretty low cost risk, so I purchased a direct replacement.  I’m basically a garage mechanic, and this was an easy install with amazing results.  I could not be happier with my purchase.  The truck runs so well and performs so much better than it did.  The 21 days to ship seemed long, but the unit looked brand new and was very easy to install.  For anyone looking for a stock replacement carb, I think National Carb is well worth looking at.  I’m sure there have been bad experiences too, but my was very positive.

Three weeks is quite a while to wait.  However the price sounds reasonable for turn-key happiness!

Did you have to supply/ship back a core?

Yes, there was a $30 core charge.  However in hindsight, they sold me a $19 ups shippng tag to return it, so it was a net $10 gain.  I didn't need it setting around the garage, but $10 is hardly worth the effort.
Note: they said they don't rebuild until there is an order...seems a bit impractical not to have popular models on hand.
