Title: 81-87 body on 73-80 body mount problems???
Post by: jhiggin on May 20, 2015, 12:22:58 pm
Hello. Im hoping I haven't gotten myself into a predicament here and was hoping to get some guidance from those here who may have done something similar. Basically I have a whole 81-87 lwb single cab, bed, and front clip. About a year ago I found a deal on a 73-80 frame that I couldn't pass up. So flash forward to now I've put 81-87 cab mounts on the frame because the old ones were rusted pretty bad. But the radiator support/leaf spring perch mount is still the 73-80 mounts. I understand that I can just use 81-87 mounts on the cab and 73-80 rad support body mounts but my question is are my body lines gonna line up? And what about panel gapping?  How's everything going to line up body wise?  Any help would be much appreciated!!

I'm no expert but I know of guys that have swapped front clips from 81-87 series trucks onto 73-80 trucks so I would imagine you won't have much difficulties. As far as I know that mounting positions on the frames are the same. Only thing I would look for is if the frame is from a C10 and the body is a K10 or vis versa but I'm not sure that would even make a difference

from what i understand you have to use the mounts related to the frame cause the holes on the frames are a different shape. 2wd vs 4wd wont matter

On body swaps you have to use the frame specific mounts NOT body specific mounts.
