Title: Unk pressure switch
Post by: Fairlane514 on June 01, 2015, 10:07:48 am
85 C10…..There is a pressure switch on the power steering hard line that is mounted to the front drivers side frame horn.  What is its function?

Thanks

The switch provides feedback to the engine ECM when the steering is heavily loaded (generally full lock) to assist with idle speed management.

Thanks, Rich…..The original distributor is no longer in this particular truck, so I guess the switch is not needed

I've never encountered that switch in service, so I don't know how much, if any, the effect will be if it's removed.  Until you questioned it, I actually thought they were used only on 6 cylinder applications.

This is a 85 Custom Deluxe, V8 truck……I have never seen one before. Its unplugged now, didn't seem to effect the operation.
