Title: dual gas tank switch
Post by: JonB9 on June 02, 2015, 10:46:43 am
Ive got an 87 short box with dual tanks- Ive never owned a truck with tanks, But I've heard on some of the older trucks if you switch tanks the the electrical switch can get stuck ( if its old or broke) and you can't switch back...  Any advice on checking this or other things to consider?

thank you

Hello,
New member here.
Last summer my 76 c20 stalled out, and I couldn't figure it out and tried a bunch of stuff till i realized it had to be the rocker switch for the tanks.  Sure enough the solenoid needed to be replaced.
Not a stock part so it took a couple of days.
Something to be aware of if this scenario ever presents itself.

the switch itself can gum up and go bad till you take it apart and clean it. i think ive heard this wifes tale before but i dont think its a real problem. with the switch or selector unit

Carry a screw driver if it conks out you can pop it off the dash and switch it, every time I get a different truck I just replace it. Working or not. It's cheap insurance.
