So, my father is stupid and short sighted. I hate to say that but he is. He owns a business that does landscaping and excavation and the like, Which of course needs a dump truck and a back hoe.
He trade his old 50's fordson backhoe with a busted frame, for a kabota bx backhoe... ok smart though I pointed out it's a tad small. that's not the problem but sets up the problem.
He had a vary nice custom 93 International diesel Dump truck, with a push out dump bed (instead of lift bed I have pictures if you want to see!) had no problems. ran great! so he stupidly traded even for a 1987 Ford F350 diesel (6.9 idi I belive) dump truck... because the kabota could not dump in to the international. ya....
right off the bat, coming home it died. put fuel in it fuel gauge is broke. towed him home.
front gas tank leaked, rear tank had no fuel full tube. fixed that.
drove it down the road.... lose powered died, towed him home.
bad batteries, new batteries, some wireing fixes, test drive..... towed him home.
the "newely rebuild injector pump" bad replaced with "good junkyard (cuse $900 for a injector pump is insaine)" test drive.... towed home. (getting the pattern?)
replaced the "good junkyard pump" with a another one, new spyder web, rebuild the return line system, idles for 4hours + just fine, test drive..... towed home.
replace lift pump with electric. got 15miles before having to be towed home.
bypassed the duel fuel slector (jsut runing the new front fuel tank now), it's down the road waiting to be towed home.
mind you he has a 86 Ford F350 Big block Dump truck (minus dump bed, running engine and back brakes) in the garage. too
really what stupid moron trades a good dump like that for a freaking pos Ford? I mean he trade a over 5K perfectly running dump for a pos $800 ford dump that does not want to run down the road. gawd. he did not ever have this amount of problems with his 72 chevy full ton dump. (if only the state inspection guy tighted the rear lugs right it be still here. and not ripped in half).
so you are all smart people (you own GMC/Chevy's after all) any one of you know what would make a stupid pos ford diesel to idle just fine for hours, but after driving for say 10min lose power and just die? sometime it will start up and drive up a hill maybe a mile before dieing.
I am getting vary tired to towing the dang thing home with my dad's 2013 Ford F150 or the 95 Ford F150 (yes he own 4 and only one is worth driving and/or street legal.) Gawd I wish I had my truck. and I'm so looking for a 6.5 diesel K30 short bed so I can make it a dump truck for him. lol
anyway thanks for the rant time. I now only like the Ford Bronco II and focus. to heck with the rest!

Time to get an old k30 dump truck. It won't have the GVW of a newer dump, but you could put one together for a reasonable price if you don't get carried away with it.

I know you said you replaced alot of parts, but I didn't read anywhere about replacing the fuel filter. A restricted fuel filter can idle or drive fine under light load but pulling a big heavy dump truck or going uphill (wait didn't you say you went uphill?) It can cause a drop in fuel pressure/flow.
P.S. I'm not and have never been or will be a ford guy.

Fitz, yes yes we do, though honestly I rather him get a 96+ gmc dump just for image of the company n all. but yes soo need to get rid of these fords.
Ltz: it "can" get up a hill for about 1500 feet. :P we are changing the filter tomorrow when we go get it again. honestly all that is left in the fuel system left to replace is: fuel filter, lines to to from the tanks, rear tank, tank switch. everything else been replace (though with the cheapest parts dad can find).

Mmmmm. Sounds like you have a bit of a plan. You might be able to find something on the Ole interweb, but at work when we do checks to a fuel filter, we put the system under vacuum and if it pulls above the acceptable limit then we know the filter is restricted. Ford might have a similar process, maybe a call to the local dealer would be a good idea, just to pick their brain a bit.

The international and the ford have basically the same engine
Have you swapped the tank yet ?
Or checked the filter sock in the tank ?
Is either sucking air from a tiny leak in the line from the tank to the engine or
Getting clogged in the tank or somewhere
Or collapsing a rubber line
Drop the tank and look inside
I'd have replaced the filter first thing
I fill the new filter with automatic transmission fluid from a new quart container
If you don't fill the new filter with that or new clean diesel
It will be really hard to start

the tank was replaced but what about the lines?
-
Any 30 yr old vehicle is a pos in today's work world. It was a bad trade so why are you making it your problem?
-
cause she has to tow the Furd home lol

Only if a gun is being held. Sometimes you have to let people get bit or they never learn.

nope lines were not replace as far as I know even though I told home probably should seeing it sat for 2 years.
as for why make it my problem see first line, my DAD is a moron (my dad is also my landlord( well my grandma but she's in Florida) and my brother is an a** n refuses to help dad (just come around when he wants something) so I am the one called when shoot brakes. -_-*
