Title: I entered my M1028 in the Halifax Mudfest
Post by: fitz on June 15, 2015, 10:27:51 am
I entered my M1028 in the Halifax Ma Mudfest (no great action shots, sorry).
The show is devided into 2 classes.  The stock class is 34" tires and under, the modified class is 35" tires and up.
In my mind I thought my truck would be a contender in the stock class.  Its a 6.2 diesel, turbo 400/208, Dana 60 (limited slip) / 14 bolt (Detroit locker) with 4.56 gears.  Nothing crazy, but should be good for the stock class.
Tires are brand new Nitto Terra Grappler 285/75R16's that I put on the night before the show.
I thought I had what it takes.  I made 3 runs and sank like a rock every time.  Luckily my truck has D rings on all 4 corners for the drag of shame as the excavator pulled me out with a tow strap.
The trucks to beat in the stock class were the Jeep CJ's, Wranglers, and Cherokees.
Next time the show comes around I'll be looking at some 33" Super Swampers to redeem myself.
It was fun.  The people laughing at me seemed to be enjoying themselves.

Being that your truck is a tank you need a ton of torque and hp to get through anything like that. That 6.2 is killing you unfortunately and if you had a sbc or a bbc you probably would have done a lot better too.

It is a heavy truck.  Yes it is going to sink!  To overcome that you need power and lots of wheel speed.  At least you didn't break anything!

I think the key to not breaking parts is to give up once you know your stuck.  A few trucks wound up snapping ujoints by staying on the throttle long after they lost forward motion.
I'm still cleaning up the truck. So far I've spent about $75 at the car wash cleaning it, and I'm not done yet.

most time when i break parts is when you have wheel spin and you hit something hard. snapped a couple axle shafts and the front dif when this happens

You're alot heavier than those jeeps, so it's easier for them to get through, but hey it's about having fun, so as long as you did that, you're good
