Title: What are the compatable years for my cab?
Post by: 73C10 on October 24, 2003, 01:27:00 pm: I have a 73 Chev C10 pickup, but my cab floors and rockers are non existent. I know I can replace the whole cab, but I don't know the years that are compatible to this. Does anyone here know what years will work? I have just bought a brand new hood, and fenders as well for this truck, and would rather not sell them. Does this mean, I cant use a cab newer than 1980?

'81 thru '87, you'll have to remove the cowl panel ahead of the windshield and cover the holes up where the hood hinges used to be, if you wish to use the older nose. The cab mounts are the same. The cowl just bolts to the newer cabs, very easy to remove.

Post by: smokin77 on October 26, 2003, 08:49:00 pm: The cowl is easy to remove but you will also need to change the wiper setup because the shaft the arms snap on(the parts that stick out of the cab) in the 73-80 trucks are shorter than the ones on the 81-87 trucks. If your truck is 4WD the whole that the transfer case shifter is different too. I know the wiring is different too.

Post by: captkaoscustoms on November 25, 2003, 03:30:00 pm: Actually you can use any cab you want. There were only small changes to them, notable the hole in the cowl for the hinges. I am putting an 86 cab on my '73 project.

Post by: 73K20 on November 26, 2003, 07:45:00 am: The only thing to be wary of is that the '73 and '74 (i think) model years used a different wiring harness than the later models. The hole in the firewall where the fuse panel mounts is smaller in these model years. Therefore if you use a newer cab you will also need to maintain its original wiring harness and not the one from the '73. This also means that you will need to obtain matching engine, headlight, and tail light harness as well.

The wiring harnesses are different, and they were split 73-76, 77-80, and 80-87(91). If you are just swapping cabs, all parts will swap over with no problem. I have been around these specific years for 20 years, and I currenlty have a 73, 78, 82 and 86 in my possesion. Wiring harnesses are different, but the fuse block is the same.

I will have to make a trip to the junkyard to check since my original cab has long since been scrapped. Maybe all the rust dust I inhaled from the cab swap clouded my mind, but I seem to remember the fuse panels being different................
