Post by: FOOSE on June 29, 2015, 09:39:18 pm
Hello,

does anyone have a tutorial on how people put tailgate trim from blazer/suburban onto a truck, does anyone still sell new trims like that, I relocated my handle and now I want the smooth look. (picture below of what I want)

Thanks guys

You might be able to get one made for the truck

The just mount with 3 screws on the back side

The one I have can with my truck when my dad bought it in the 80s (http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/06/30/f5932a3e479314c77592fa6a8c2cdeaa.jpg)

Foose, the trim you pictured, the large square shaped one, attaches on the back side of the tail gate with FOUR (4) screws. I think it came factory on some trucks, not just blazers and suburbans. The square design is an 80s item.

Chisholmcody, the smaller, more round trim you posted attaches with THREE (3) screws. It DID come factory on trucks in the 70s. My friend still has the original piece on his truck.

70's tailgate, specifically a 78.

Not sure why it has 5 trim holes. Someone in the past may have mounted an 80s style.

80's tailgate, year unknown.

LTZ C20, Yes the truck tail gate trim mounts like that, but I want to put a blazer/suburban on one my truck, I relocated the tailgate handle to the inside, the truck tailgate trim has a notch where the handle goes, I put pictures up on the differences from the truck and blazer, the other difference is the inside of the trim where it mounts too, I can't bolt on a blazer/suburban trim on the factory locations on truck tailgates, there needs to be some modifications, just wondering if anyone has done it to tell whats all involved.

White truck is factory trim (picture)

Green truck has trim from a blazer/suburban (picture)

Red tailgate is the inside of my tailgate to show the new location of the handle (picture)

Oh ok I got ya now. I may have an idea. The blazer trim and the truck trim pieces are the same shape, until you get to the handle obviously. Not sure how the blazer attaches but the truck ones have a full length rear half, it is the mounting "bracket" for the trim
You might be able to remove the full length mounting bracket half of the truck trim and reattach it to the blazer 1. So theoretically speaking, the new "custom trim" should attach like a truck trim but look like a blazer trim.

This all might be total crap but worth checking on I guess.

that's a good theory! I may have to try that, now to find a blazer trim in perfect shape...

It might actually be that easy.

Hey, thought you might wanna look at these. It's the back side of my 80's tailgate trim. Showing how the outer piece attaches to the inner piece.

Welcome! I would imagine the blazer/suburban trims attach to their brackets similarly or the same.

to get a Blazer panel on a Pickup you need to remove the inner panel as shown above on both pieces and then swap the Blazer outer to the Pickup inner.  There may be some trimming on the sides, but that is pretty much it.  Be patient.
