Title: How big is my lift?
Post by: rugbychevyguy on July 08, 2015, 10:48:51 am
I have an 84 k10 that was already lifted when i purchased it, i want to get new shocks and first need to find out how much it was previously lifted. I know i have to measure from frame to axle but i don't know what the original height was. Any suggestions on where to find that and any suggestions on type of shocks?

Thanks y'all

Do you have lift blocks in the rear?  If so, you can measure the block height.  Can you post any photos?

It has an 8 lug front end with, it looks like, small hubs. That means it is not a Dana 60 1 ton front end. :) The rear end is a 8 lug Fully floating 14 bolt rear end. What size tires are on it? Can you measure from the top of the rear axle to the bottom of the frame at the bump stop? My truck is a 1/2 ton with a 6 inch lift and that distance is 17 inches I believe. It looks like a 2 1/2 inch add a leaf on the rear too.

dana 60 hub is about 4". there are dana 44 that look similar to it but as you can see compared to yours theres a big difference. aint no biggie unless you plan on mudding with 38+" tires

285/75/16 tires are just over 32.5" tall (equivalant to a 33x11.5). Based on that, I would say you have a 2.5" lift front and rear

How much do you think it would cost to raise that to a 4" lift? And if i did that what size tires would look right?

lol not a k10 (for say) the only difference in a k10 6 lug and k20 8 lug front end is from the hubs out (year respective).
now this part is a complete guess, but if 33s fit like that you should be good with 36 its only 1.5" on each side. i would think the lift is MAYBE close to 6" if we could get a list of measurements together from top of axle to frame (not bump stop) we could make a chart.

So i have a k20 front and k30 rear? Haha.

It was 14" from top of rear axle to bottom of frame. What are some good 36s that would fit my wheels?

some K20s came with the 14bolt FF rear end, and some people have swapped K10 10-bolts to 8 lug, If you use 3/4 ton springs, it'd be safe to say you have the same capacity as one of the heavier K20s

yeah what tim said. more than likely you have ¾ ton set up. 1 tons also can have other rear ends like the dana 70.
super swampers are good but their life is very limited due to the tire compound being so soft. but what are your intentions on this truck? do you plan on light off road or you just want that "cool" factor?

I want the cool factor but i also like to go mudding so maybe even good 35s?
