What exactly does the door do?  Is it safe to remove?  1986 chevy c20 4 speed manual

its a vent, without it you will have constant air coming in from the cowl area. not bad in the summer without ac but in the winter you will freeze. do they work anymore? many times its a cracked vacuum line that stops them from working. easy fix vs easy removal

Vac controlled open when a/c is in max mode. Otherwise it's closed. If you remove it you will have an open hole leading to the blower and cowl area.

both my trucks have it as they are AC trucks. but neither have the AC systems anymore so i drilled a hole in the door and put a little wire on it so i can hook it open in the summer. really helps keep air flowing on hot days

My 75 has the same thin . But it doesn't work either. Close to the vent, there is a vacuum line going into the vent. But about a foot before it there is a T with another line that got disconnected. Where does this go?
