Title: Stopping the rust till time for professional bodywork?
Post by: Rustbucket86 on July 24, 2015, 06:53:07 pm
I have the usual bad rust around the bottom of my cab, and I was wondering what the best method of stopping it temporarily would be. Should I sand it down and spray some rust preventative primer over it or just cut it out completely? I do not have access to a wielder or sandblaster. Rust converter and then rusty metal primer then top coat. Harbor freight carries all of that stuff now too

Great! I love an excuse to go to Harbor Fright. Another question, the rust on the firewall has eaten completely through to the insulation. Should I worry about engine fumes leaking into the cab? What's my best option for this?

Rust reformer by rustoleum.  For that hole, use maybe that metal tape. Or some thick padding type insulation if its not a hot area.

Rust reformer works well but is black. I recently discovered VHT Rust converter, and it is clear and only darkens the rust, similar to navel jelly.

At the body/restoration shop I manage we use POR15 and have had great luck with it.
