My brakes have recently been really weak. Don't know how to explain it but it feels uneasy. Any suggestions as to whatbi could do? There is brake fluid and i do not have power brakes.

Well, check the hoses, they could be expanding, not putting the pressure where it needs to go. Also check pad wear-too much wear, pedal needs to travel farther for same braking.
You can also check and make sure none of the hardware broke, that can cause a bigger issue if a shoe is just flopping around
A leak is still possible- where there is a leak, there is air,air means softer brakes(could be very slow, so fluid may not look like it is receding, especially if it is pulling air back in)

Could be time for new rear shoes. If they are almost gone or you don't reverse that often they may need to be manually expanded. Rear brakes being low make a big difference.

i would check the vacuum line and check valve on the booster. unplug the check valve and see if your engine rpms pick up while the engine is running
