Title: Drum brake troubles
Post by: sterlingbrum on August 17, 2015, 07:03:15 pm
Not sure if this is the right category to post this in, if not re-route me. Anyways today I replaced my shoes on my rear brakes on my 82 1/2 ton 2wd. Things were going smoothly until I went to put the drums back on and they wouldn't fit. So I adjusted the little knob down, opened the bleeder and figured I'd be on my way. That wasn't the case the drum would only fit halfway over the shoes and then stop, I only had about half of the lug sticking out. Then I put some nuts on and torqued them down thinking it would set the shoes down, that didn't work either. Now I'm here looking for advice on what to do. Any ideas?

Did you compare the originals with what you have?  There are 2 sizes of shoes...

They matched up  fine. Just not sure about pad thickness because the pads were worn all the way.

Back the self-adjuster and the park brake off.

Back the self-adjuster and the park brake off.

I'll try that tomorrow, I've had enough for tonight...
