Title: Broken Hazard Switch - Can't find a new one!
Post by: Thundergun on August 19, 2015, 10:27:34 pm
Hey Guys - I have an 85 k10.

The physical switch that you pull out and push in to activate the hazard (or emergency) flashers is missing. It looks like a small cylinder and it's located on the lower right hand side of the steering column.

I CANNOT for the life of me find a new one, at the parts store or online.

Does anyone have a part number or a recommend where to get one?

Local junkyards don't have one :(

Thanks!!

I think I've seen em in the Dorman/Help stuff at O'reilly but can't find it on their website, it's really nothing more than a button that screws in to push in/pull out.  I bought this column dress kit that came with a fancy screw, that's what I'm using

If you are looking for the button, screw, spacer and spring you are probably going to have to go to a pick and pull and bring a phillips screwdriver.  Any GM steering column up to 1992 or so would be the same

Thanks for the info guys. I'm actually looking for the external piece as well as the internal switch that makes contact. I think i found one at the local salvage yard, fingers crossed. it's been a pita.

Best of luck, that internal piece is a part of the switch and may not be replaceable by itself.  New switches are not that much but at least you can get the outside parts that you need.

Okay, so that part contains the switching mechanism for the hazards knob, i assume.

Darn. That is not something i am familiar with installing.

Thanks tho!

$25 for 2 pieces of plastic, a spring and a screw....
If that poor kid in China found out the markup on that he'd probably commit suicide lol
