Title: New member from KY looking for some advice
Post by: 1310monster on September 09, 2015, 06:33:53 pm
Hey everyone! I'm glad to be part of the forum. I'm looking for some feedback on how I should approach what I want to do. I have a lot of experience with the 73-80 trucks and I'm a bodyman/painter. We rebuilt a lot of ex highway trucks back several years ago for resale. Must 60 series which had most of the interior the same as a pickup. I also built a 76 K10 many years ago from the ground up.

This time I want to built a K30 SRW with the 4 speed manual and have been looking at some clunkers on CL. Really what I need is just a bunch of parts. Maybe a rotted down K30 that I can add parts to from a donor truck or just buy new metal for. I have a bunch of Chevy stuff sitting around collecting dust including a 69 427 BB, A set of vintage wheels with new tires that were suppose to go on another project but never did and other things that didn't get installed on the 76 half ton before I sold it.

I'd like to find an 8 ft. fleetside bed with the wood floor option that I can rebuild. I want it to be built back as a Silverado. I don't want anything newer than a 1979 and actually want a 75 or 76. Should I just keep looking on CL or is there some place that I can post a wanted add?

Any help is appreciated.

Welcome to the site.  Craigslist and scrap yards are good places to find parts.  Classifieds (Buying/Selling) on this forum is for paid site supporters only

welcome from maryland. something else to keep in mind is only ½ ton 4x4s are 6 lug so you have to find new rims and a tire that size would rip apart a ½ ton axle with little abuse

I have the dana 60 6 lug hubs. They were on another truck that had the 14 bolt/D60 axles set up the same way.

Finding a wood floor longbed is going to be a hard task.  That was not a popular option and a rare find now.

I've seen exactly one , on a P chassis motor home
Mid 90s model
But it didn't have a normal circle , it was an odd size circle and rim diameter  and wheels and tires were very very hard to find

Made it almost impossible for me to sell the motor home

They are just conversion hubs made by an aftermarket company. You can type in D60 6 LUG HUB on ebay and see some. I didn't realize until last night there is a 6 lug conversion kit for the 14 bolt now. When I got those wheels I think the 14 bolt they were on had the holes welded up and and the 6 on 5.5 redrilled. Thanks for replying!

Yes I know. I saw a truck on CL in Montana recently that had one.  I hope I can find one because that is one thing I really had my heart set on. Someone said they were a fairly popular option in the midwest where farmers were hauling livestock. I plan on posting some want ads in Iowa and Nebraska.

I've modified this post....What if I offer a finders fee bounty for this bed? Is that against the rules?
