Title: Cleaning the engine bay/engine
Post by: oldblue76 on September 20, 2015, 07:58:04 pm
Have a 77 K10. Just picked up the truck and have started with clean up. Truck runs and drives fine. I will be replacing the leaking valve cover gaskets in the next couple of days. Any suggestions with cleaning the engine/engine bay to get rid of the burnt oil that was left behind by the leaking valve cover gaskets? Thanks

foaming degreaser wire brush and pressure washer. cover up all electrical before spraying but otherwise just use a LOT of elbow grease

I have always went to the dollar store and picked cans of DOW Oven Cleaner and sprayed it on and let it sit for 20 minutes and power wash it off....i do this a couple of times and my engine bay and engine are always clean.

If you have access to a hot water pressure washer that will take it all off.

I like "Simple Green" or "Greased Lightening", grab some baggies and ductape ,go to your local car wash, bag and tape off the dist. and spray on the cleaner, let it set for about 10 mins, and use the high pressure to clean it off.

Go to the dollar store and buy the brushes used for cleaning dishes. They are stiff enough but not too soft to help clean those hard to get spots.

Make sure you get some good rubber gloves too as between the chemicals you are using and the grease your hands get absolutely disgusting.
