Title: Will 88+ GMT 400 wiper arms fit 73-87 trucks?
Post by: fitz on September 29, 2015, 05:32:52 pm
We have a big rain storm heading my way.  I just put a coat of Rain-X on my 1984 M1028 and my 2000 K2500.
The wiper arm on the 2000 seems to me that it is a better design. The arm folds up to make it easier to clean the windshield. It also has a spring that puts a little pressure on the arm to keep the wiper blade tight against the windshield.
I just did a quick search but came up empty.
Has anyone tried this putting the newer style arm on a 73-87?  I'm just wondering if it fits.

Yes and they don't work.   They are a few inches to long.   I need a set of wiper arms for the 84 and the set I had for the 97 were to long.

I did notice that the newer style arms were a little longer.  I also noticed that the wiper blades on the 84 were shorter.
I will have to see if I can mix and match the longer arm & the shorter blade and see if it works.

Nope.  I've been looking for wiper arms as I'm missing a couple.   They need to be close to the stock length.

Well, speaking of wiper arms, does anybody know if the rubber line is replaceable on the 85-87 style with the built in nozzles? My rubber hoses have rotted at the base of the cowl at the hose nipple there that connects to the rubber line that runs up the arm allowing my washer fluid to squirt onto my hood! Is it best to just get the new Dorman ones from the help section of my big box auto parts store for $16 a pop, or is it possible to just replace the rubber lines? Nothing else seems to be wrong with them besides that and the fact that the plastic clamps that hold the hose to the arm have rotted away and are missing. Thanks.

You can replace the rubber line.

Well that's good! That would be a heck of a lot cheaper than getting all new arms! Thanks!

Well, after looking around, I can't find rubber hose small enough to fit anywhere locally! It's like the parts guy thread, nobody seems to know what the heck I'm talking about or just give me a blank stare! Lol! So, I bit the bullet and had my local O'Reilly's order me new arms in. They're made by Dorman and cost $16 a piece. Should be in tomorrow, so wish me luck!
