I'm sure this is probably a dumb question but how much fluid does a standard 700r4 pan hold? I recently got my truck back from paint and changed out the tv cable and had it running when I checked the trans dipstick and noticed it was bone dry. I've added 4 quarts and there's still no fluid registering on the dipstick. There's no leaks so I'm pretty confused right now because I figured most pans hold 4-5 quarts.

If it's not poring out on the ground just keep adding until it's full.

Alright sounds good then. Up to 6 quarts now. no idea how it got this dang empty.

The pan generally holds about 4-5 quarts unless its an aftermarket deep pan, then 7-8, the torque converter will hold another 4-5 quarts

Does the transfer case leak. If so its very possible that the seal around the output shaft is leaking into the transfer case which than leaks on to the ground

i honestly don't know why it was so low. not leaking (well no trans fluid at least, engine oil is). I bought it from someone then deployed and when i got home it went straight to the paint shop. So after 7 1/2 quarts of trans oil and a new tv cable, it works fine. Surprised the thing didn't blow up.
