After searching several stores and asking Chris who owns this site, I finally found some on ebay

Thanks! I need all four, but i'll start with those two.
-
Just an FYI, those are nothing special, plain old rubber grommets. You can get them at auto parts stores in the "help!" section in the grommet assortment pack, online, orchard supply hardware has a large supply of odd things like that, or places like summit racing sell kits with all different sizes. They are just sheet metal grommets.
-
Thanks!! I did however find some OEM ones at a dealer. NOS, they were three bucks each. Got 4.
-
But officially they are discontinued, of course.
-
Well that's good, for future reference tho, I would just go to one of the places I suggested. They are not one of those things I would consider needing to be factory original replacements.
-
Hey LTZ, i just realized your the one with the new custom mirrors. Well, i guess you know where to get grommets then. Hey, do you think its possible to go to those smaller mirrors i posted in your other post? It wont be for a few years anyway when i do a full body resto.
-
i wonder how much you could slide the original mirrors out with the modified tube. ltz how did you get the mirror off without breaking the glass?

Hahaha, now your catching on. So what are you asking with the smaller mirrors??
Are you asking if you can put the mirrors I took off my truck onto your truck? What mirrors do you currently have?

Whaaa? You mean slide out the smaller mirrors I took off?? I don't know what's holding them together, never had 1 of those mirror heads apart? Are you referring to the arms on my new mirrors as the modified ones?
As for the glass, VERY CAREFULLY. I banged the mirror against the concrete till if fell out. Ok just kidding. The rubber seal is U shaped. I rolled the seal on one side toward the middle of the glass until it popped out, then with the exposed piece, I slowly went along and rolled the seal toward the glass with 1 hand and pulled up and away with the other hand. About 3/4's of the way around, 1 mirror just popped out. The other got 3/4's of it out and then just lightly pulled on the mirror out and way from the housing and it popped out. I found the mirror glass it self is double sided, so it didn't matter which way I put it back in, both sides are mirrored but I put it back with the same side facing out as they came.

yeah something like combining your setup with the oem one.

Ok now I'm really confused. My setup and the oem one, my setup is 2 oem setups mashed together.
-
As far as me...this is what i have now.

And this is what i'd like in the future when i do a full body restoration.

Both are factory offered. I am just wondering if the conversion is possible without changing doors.

take the mirror that was on your truck the one thats on most our trucks and mount it on the shaft thats on your truck now. so it looks stock but when you need it you can pull it out another 5"

Aaahhhhh, I get it now. I pick up what your laying down. Yea that would probably be cool, tho it might look tall Cuz the arm is like 6 inches compared to the regular height. Do you know there is a version of the mirrors I took off that do slide out like 4 or 5 inches. In fact I just say a set the other day on a truck and they were fully extended.

Philobeddoe, just so you know. I snagged a couple of these body plugs from work, (the techs have all kinds of extra crap like this in little parts bins) they are rubber and are the same size as the holes in the mirrors for the arms. They are solid in the middle so you can cut a hole to your desired size and they actually fit a little snugger and in my opinion look cleaner than the normal grommets. They are just body plugs that GM uses in alot of the newer cars. Ide imagine that if you went to a hardware store you might be able to find something similar or online you might find someone who is selling a collection of them for dirt cheap. They are 25MM but that's not really important, I just found they fit the holes really nice. Heck you might be able to go to a dealer and ask for some at the parts counter, they could probably find a part number for them pretty quick as they are used on a lots of GM vehicles, they probably come in packs of 10 or some amount. I can't see GM selling them individually. They gotta be pretty cheap too as there isn't anything to them.

I'll post a few pics as soon as I swap them for the other grommets.
-
Thanks, i see how those would work great. I'll start looking for them. Hey, whats a fair price for a clean oem stainless below eye level mirror?
-
Uhhhh idk repro's are like 30 bucks .
-
Would $50 be reasonable for the real deal if in good shape?
-
Is that for 1 or for 2?
-
For 1, each.
-
I guess for OEM units, that's probably not that bad. The mirrors I put on are OEM and it was over 100 for those.
-
Each??
-
Each??
Haha no, for the set. I would have loved to see the look on your face tho if I had said yes.
-
Ok, thats fair for oem in goog condition.
-
Ok, thats fair for oem in goog condition.
I would guess yea.
-
Those factory grommets came in, and they do fit in perfect, of course they do, their OEM. Some things we can get away with, but ya just can't beat OEM.
-
Regarding switching from the dumbo mirrors to the sport mirrors, you could, but you would need the internal brackets for the sport mirrors. They are supposed to be tack welded to the inside of the door IIRC, and the dumbo mirrors leave an extra hole you would have to weld shut and repaint...Its been a while since I removed mine and chucked the tiny little pieces of garbage into the nearest trash can in favor of the OE dumbo mirrors.
-
It appears just about everyone on this site is partial to the "below eye level mirrors".
-
Probably because any other alternative (except the small square deals and the tow mirrors with the small 3 point mounts) are hideous.
-
These little guys are factory, this is what i got now, and by the way, just went back to the stainless. Before and after. (http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/11/18/438fcd0ece6d3dd5616c603ca7cae9ff.jpg)

Why do these little square ones look so good here:

Honestly the smaller tripod ones would look good on a multitude of trucks. But the smaller the mirror, the more appealing the truck is too-which is probably why that bonanza looks so good. But I like the west coasts mirrors on the crew cab duallys big truck just needs them big mirrors
Plus I'm not a fan of chrome, accents is fine. My truck will will get painted mirrors and rear step bumper-maybe a billet grille if I can't find a decent GMC grille for reasonable money

Try to go with a factory grill. I'm not a big chrome fan either, in fact, i started to go with white accents...rims, mirrors, bumpers. But something wasnt right. So i'm back to original chrome bumpers, but stainless oem mirrors and factory white steel rims and the dog dish hub caps. I sure would like the hub caps on that bonanza, where can ya find those full size ones??
-
On my c10, the "dumbo" mirrors are acceptable to me, smaller than that and they might as well not be there. I prefer the west coast mirrors on my k20 and my 99 c3500hd, but dont see myself needing the extra visibility bad enough to install them on the c10.
-
Yeah, not sure what it is but those western style mirrors are really nice looking on the right truck/setup.
