Title: steering wheel swaps
Post by: ucstepside on November 07, 2015, 07:24:36 pm
I have a 78 tilt steering wheel that i am trying to put in a 74 cab. The turn signal plugs are different. Do they make an adpater to use for the swap? Any suggestions?

Are you swapping a steering wheel or steering column?

If you're swapping the steering column, you can repin the wires from the later column into the plug from the earlier column.  Take notes/photos and take your time.

I am replacing the column. How do I repin the wires?

Look closely at the plastic connector plug and you should see that the wires have a terminal end with a tang that snaps into the connector.  Push the wire into the connector, take a small screwdriver or probe and depress the tang on the wire end and gently pull the wire out of the connector.

If you have the two columns side by side, you should be able to move each wire individually to the early style connector until all the wires are swapped.

If you don't know how to depin a connector I'm going to say you'll need to do much more research into what you are doing.

You can't just pull a wire and stick it somewhere you think.. you need to follow diagrams and trace wires to ensure what your doing is going to work for that accessory.

thanks for the reply. I got the wires label for connector. I need to find time to make the switch over.
