I am about to install two new ex manifolds. Is there a high temp gray or steel color paint that we can apply to prevent rust and corrosion?
-
There is "header" paint. Some use "BBQ" paint from the hardware store.
-
I just used plain ole tremclad paint lol.
-
They sell header paint as well at a lot of auto stores. I think it is supposed to stand a little more heat. i used it to paint my brothers exhaust (albeit farther back than the headers) and it seemed to work great.
Heres some:

Hope that helps!

Looks good, i'll try that. Say, what is the average temp of a fully hot ex. manifold??
-
No more than 1000 degrees i would not imagine
-
Eastwood makes a brush on coating for exhaust manifolds.
I used it on my 79 Jimmy 25 years ago. Wow, time flies.
-
Ok, i got gray header paint. Up to 2000 degrees.
-
Yes time dont wait for no one. I remember when my 79 camaro was at the dealership!
-
If you don't cure header paint properly it won't stick or work good either fyi.
-
How do you cure it??
-
Read the instructions? :P
-
Okay, bake at 250, 400, 600 each 30 min. My oven dont go up to 600. Now what?
-
Goes up to 550, close enough!
-
Actually it can be done on the vehicle too by letting engine run and cool three times for x amount of time. All set.
