Title: New guy
Post by: Goodtogomatt on November 13, 2015, 09:23:11 am
Hello out there new to the sight. I'm having an issue with my 84 k10. I'm no mechanic, but I am mechanically inclined. I believe the issue is in the carb, but could be wrong. When I drop down in gear the idle drops very low. When I first step on the gas it will start to choke and some times die. When I get down the road its fine. If I stop it will sputter a bit when taking off but not as bad as when I first put it into gear. Any help would be appreciated its an eddelbrock 1407 on a 350. Thank you and God bless.

Welcome from NV.

It's normal for the idle speed to drop when you go into gear.  I'm assuming it's an auto. Your Idle speed should be around 800RPM in Park/Neutral and then drop down to around 550RPM in Drive/Reverse.  Also check your timing.

The edelbrock 1407 is a 750cfm carb which is pretty big for a 350.

A little history on the truck and the issue will g a long ways towards troubleshooting.  Is the truck new to you?  Has this issue been going on for awhile or is it new? Has anything on the truck changed recently?  Is the motor mostly stock or built up? what Mods/Changes are there?  What transmission does it have?

I just bought the truck about a month and a half ago. It's a 3 speed automatic and I'd say it's pretty much stock. It's had this issue since I bought it. It's the last issue I need to fix to call it mechanically sound. I've replace the drivers side gas tank and fuel sending unit, flushed radiator, changed hoses, changed all fluids, replaced drivers side freeze plug behind motor mount, thermostat and housing and belt.

Welcome from Georgia. Something that may get you more help is posting this in then Engine/Drive train section. One because its the appropriate place for it and two because not everyone checks all the new members post.
