Title: Carb issue?
Post by: Goodtogomatt on November 13, 2015, 09:30:06 am
Hello out there new to the sight. I'm having an issue with my 84 k10. I'm no mechanic, but I am mechanically inclined. I believe the issue is in the carb, but could be wrong. When I drop down in gear the idle drops very low. When I first step on the gas it will start to choke and some times die. When I get down the road its fine. If I stop it will sputter a bit when taking off but not as bad as when I first put it into gear. Any help would be appreciated its an eddelbrock 1407 on a 350. Thank you and God bless.

Check for vacuum leaks, from cracked hoses.  It also could be an accelerator pump on the carb.  See if at idle there is gas visibly dripping while looking in the carb.

Couldn't find any vaccum leaks and can't see any gas dripping.

Sounds like you need to adjust the screws on your carburetor. There are YouTube videos which can show you how.

whats your timing set at?  make sure you have no vacuum leaks and then try and tune the carb

Thanks for the help. Tuned the carb today its definitely better I'm going to straighten out the timing this week and change the plugs.

AC Delco R45TS or Autolite 24 spark plugs.

Check out my new ignition timing thread.  It's a sticky at the top of the Engine/Drivetrain category:

i had this same exact problem on my holley 600 carb on my '83 k10. on mine and what it sounds like on yours is that the floats are sticking inside the carb. if it wont stay idling healthily try tapping the fuel bowls with a hammer and see if it has any effect. if it does effect it, buy a rebuild/trick kit and change out the pin and seat assembly. hope this helps
